Our people

The adults you will meet at the yurt door

Six adults share the school week, and these three are at the yurt most mornings.

  • The director and lead teacher on a forest trail with a daypack

    Silke Jensen

    Director and lead teacher

Silke leads Larch and teaches the older group. She taught indoors for years before she moved her teaching outside, and she is the first adult at the yurt each morning, warming it up and walking the site.

  • Cade Eastman, teacher, standing at the edge of an open field

    Cade Eastman

    Teacher, younger group

Cade teaches the younger group and leads the den builders. He grew up in northern Michigan and can tell you whose tracks are in the snow.

  • Colette Beaulieu, assistant teacher, in front of tall classroom windows

    Colette Beaulieu

    Assistant teacher

Colette is the steady second adult on every morning walk, runs the snack circle and knows where the spare mittens are.

How we work

What every teacher at Larch has in common

  • Trained for the trail

Every adult is trained in first aid and CPR, and every group has one of them with it on the walk.

  • Two adults, every group

Each group of 12 children has two adults. One walks at the front and one at the back.

  • Outside in every season

We teach outdoors in all four seasons, and we dress for it ourselves.
